Alexis was going to track down her brother, and that was all there was to it. Michael had been there for her throughout her entire life. Even when she had been captured and imprisoned by the Alliance, her brother had managed to find her and get her out. Well, that had been with the help of those on Initium - which was a good deal of the reason she had stayed there instead of leaving on the Exodus.

But since others had been there for her brother, Alexis figured that if she asked enough questions - and asked the right people - she would probably get somewhere.

There was an information dealer named Gordon Blake. Alexis had seen him around Clancy's a little, but she hadn't spoken to him much one on one. Now, though, she was seeking him out to see if he had any information on her brother. They were to meet in one of the alleys surrounding Clancy's, and now that she was out there, Alexis was starting to have second thoughts.

Not that such things would make her give up and leave.

This was interesting.

Michael Dawson was gone, and nobody had any clue where he was. Everyone seemed eager to point the finger at the Alliance.

Gordon wasn't so sure. Actually, he knew it wasn't the Alliance. Taking a citizen of Initium without going through the proper channels could easily be conceivec as an act of war, and the Alliance wasn't prepared to incite war over a rather insignificant little moon colony.

So far, though, no one had bothered to ask his opinion on it. Well, until now. Lexi Hollis was trying to see if he had any information on her brother.

Well, well, she was in for a treat.

He met her where they'd specified, in an alley near Clancy's. He'd just gotten off of a really slow shift. As of late, most people on Initium had been rather wary of -- well, everyone. Especially the Archers. Rumors had been floating around. Gordon Blake may or may not have been the initiator of those rumors, but he always said that he heard it from a drunk guy who heard it from a friend.

No reason to put himself under the bus, especially since Nadir had been keeping a close eye on him ever since that Alliance investigator found out all those names. Naturally Archer suspected him.

"Heya li'l sister," he greeted as he came into the alley.

As Gordon came up to her, Alexis tried to not look nervous. She felt like she was running some sort of illegal deal or something, meeting this information man in an alley behind Clancy's. But... there was nothing illegal about this, right? She was just trying to figure out where her brother had gone.

Even if that meant she had to meet someone that was particularly good at finding out information that most people couldn't.

He greeted her, and Alexis crossed her arms - partly out of trying to look slightly annoyed and partly out of a subconscious attempt to protect herself. "I'm not your little sister," she somehow felt necessary to point out.

She glanced the other man up and down. She had seen him before, but now, in what felt like a clandestine meeting, she saw him somewhat differently. Helpful? Certainly. Dangerous? She hoped not.

"So uh... You know anything about Michael?"

He held up his hand, placating. Didn't mean anything by it.

Then came the question. He had a few of his own, first, since he was doing this pro-bono (he had a soft spot for little sisters; they reminded him of his own). "First off, I need ta know if you know anythin'. Don' wanna go over stuff if you might already know. Second, I want you ta know that I don' have all the info that I can get jus' yet. Gonna take a few more days. But I think I got somethin' for ya, anyhow."

He waited for her response, assuming it would be an affirmation and then her telling him that she knew nothing except that her brother was missing, which Gordon knew was all she knew, but figured she didn't need to know that he knew that.

There was just a whole lot of knowing -- or lack of knowing -- going on.

Alexis felt a little bad for being on the defensive, so she tried to loosen up a little bit. After all, he did seem like he wanted to help her. She attempted to let go of some of her tense muscles and to even move her arms from their folded position.

Nope. Wasn't happening. Darn her body and its inability to cooperate.

She forced herself to simply concentrate instead on answering his question. Did she know anything? Of course not. That was why she was there asking him about Mikey, wasn't it?

Alexis shook her head. "No, nothing more than the fact that he was taken." And the fact that it looked like those damn Alliance bastards had been the ones to do it. It was a quick and easy conclusion for her to jump to, especially considering her terrible bias against them. She obviously wasn't think it through for any logical consistency, but could you really blame someone who had themselves been a prisoner of the Alliance for a few years?

So she didn't know anything. That was good. Well, not for her. For him.

"Yer prolly thinkin' it was the Allies," he said, "but it wasn't." The Alliance wouldn't be foolish enough to risk war over one man, especially one as insignificant as Michael Dawson. Though, Gordon supposed, Dawson wasn't insignificant to this girl right here.

Something picked at him, but he ignored it. He had to, to get through this. Even if his conscience was a casualty -- or, rather, what was left of it.

"Don' ya find it curious that Boss Archer isn't concerned about this? That he isn't… doing anythin'?" He figured what he was implying was fairly obvious, but maybe it wasn't. Especially to this girl, who was so grateful to the Archers that she probably couldn't even imagine them doing anything like what Gordon was implying they did.

Oh, but they could. And they had done far worse than that.

The idea that it could even possibly not be the Alliance hadn't occurred to her. And even if she had thought of it before now, she would immediately dismissed such a ludicrous idea. Michael had stolen her off an Alliance ship, after all. Released a prisoner.

It didn't help that Alexis took anything to do with the Allies way too personally. And truth be told, despite the pain and annoyance that both she and Michael had put the Alliance through, they were probably not at the height of the Alliance's concerns.

Being a young adult didn't always mean that one had yet managed to go beyond egocentrism.

Then, Gordon went on to insinuate the unthinkable: the very idea that the Archers weren't being of pure intentions themselves. Alexis felt a pit form in her stomach. She was revolted by the idea that this family would go through so much to help her and her brother and then have something to do with Mikey's disappearance. But why would they do that? What would they even gain by such a thing?

Alexis scowled at him. "The Archers probably want to lie low so those Ally assholes don't come storming back to the colony." Or something like that, anyway. How was she supposed to know? She was hardly inner circle around here. She raised her chin a little defensively. "I could just go ask Mr. Archer himself if he knows anything about Michael." She paused, then added, barely daring to do so with this man, "Unless you know something of more use."

He made a hmm face, as if she was making him think about what he'd said, which she wasn't. Well, not in the way she probably wanted to. He was thinking about whether Michael Archer really even cared about Michael Dawson or Alexis Hollis.

And he doubted it very much.

He smiled, though, when he heard the last comment. "Ah, well, I always do." The real question, though, was if he'd actually divulge that 'something of more use' that he 'always' knew. This time he would. "Whoever took him clearly wants you thinkin' it was the Allies. But they wouldn' risk war with the Fringe over one man." He almost added something about her brother's lack of significance or importance, but decided he'd made her mad enough already.

"I don't know who it was, though. Prolly the same guys gunnin' for the Archers, whoever they are." After all, there was obviously someone going after them. First Warren, then Hannah. Gordon had to figure that Dawson's disappearance had something to do with that.

Alexis frowned. At this point, she almost certainly didn't like the man. She figured he could tell - she wasn't exactly the most subtle of people - but saying anything to allude to such out loud would possibly dissuade him from revealing this "something of more use." At least for free, anyway.

Soft spots for little sisters probably went away for certain people after said people directly insulted one's mannerisms.

His guess only furthered her uncertainty. She knew of the problems with whomever was going after the Archers. Nasty business that was, and she knew that she didn't want Michael tangled up in that mess. But it would seem he didn't have an idea of who such a person - or group of people - could be. At least he wasn't telling her, anyway...

Taking a deep breath, Alexis addressed him again. "But why would they go after Michael?" she asked. "Why not another of the Archers?" She obviously didn't wish this on them, either, but she didn't understand. Was he brother tied up in things more than she knew? What part of the picture was she missing here?

Yes, why would they?

Gordon managed to stop himself from smiling sufficiently that she couldn't have even noticed it. "He's connected. Far as these people're concerned, he is an Archer. The Archers risked a lot to help him. To help you. For whatever reason, they want to see the Archers hurt. They prolly saw this as a good chance to do jus' that."

He'd thought of something, and he'd have to follow up on it. After all, even to the people who wanted the Archers dead, Michael Dawson was rather insignificant. If it had been them, then they would have taken someone a little closer. Ryan, Hannah, hell, even Nadir was a better target.

This little girl was right, in that respect. But letting her know that wasn't profitable to Gordon.

Despite the fact that she hadn't really gotten that much information from Gordon, Alexis felt like she had a lot to think about. And a lot more digging to do. But where could she go next? If Gordon didn't have the information, then who would? She had a feeling that things would get dark and dangerous if she really started digging...

It was no secret that the Archers made enemies, and lots of them. But for her and Michael to have so easily gotten entangled was a little scary. She felt a little miserable as she realized that she had no idea what to do.

A little sobered by the conversation, Alexis returned her gaze to Gordon. There was much he was hiding, but she was sure that none of it was solid. It was probable that his theories were completely erroneous. Then again, the information man was likely to half-rely on instinct anyway - and was probably good at it. She realized that she either wasn't going to get much more information from him, or she was going to have to be better about getting other things out of him.

"Well," she said, dropping her arms at last to her side and standing up straighter. "I obviously don't want to stop until I find Michael." She hesitated before admitting - at least out loud - the next part. "If there's a way to dig a bit deeper..." She let her voice drip off and the insinuation hang.

He understood what she was feeling. Losing a sibling was tough. Really tough.

So he couldn't really bring himself to make her feel any worse than he already had. It was probably a weakness, but he didn't care. He'd planted the seed that he'd meant to, and there was no reason to upset her more.

"I'll be diggin' deeper. Promise." He inclined his head slightly. "But it's not a guarantee I'll find anythin'. Don't get your hopes up too high." The truth was, he didn't figure he'd find much else on where her brother had disappeared to. This wasn't just some sloppy snatch-'n-grab -- somebody who was actually Somebody did this. Gordon wasn't stupid enough to think that Michael Dawson would go easily. Which meant one of two things. Either they could take him on...

Or they somehow used a threat to his sister's safety against him.

Or, he supposed, both. That was certainly a possibility. A probability, actually.

Alexis had done everything she knew to do, at least with Gordon. There wasn't much she really knew to do anyway, but trying to find information was as good of a start as any. Now, she realized that most of Gordon's information at this point was mostly conjecture. She'd either have to wait until he found out something more, or she would have to go digging elsewhere.

Sometimes, especially now, she was afraid of what she could find. Especially because she was beginning to believe the possibility that it wasn't the Alliance.

Suddenly self-aware again, Alexis glanced back down the alley. She didn't want to stay out much longer, and it was getting late. Best get home. She looked at Gordon, sighing inwardly. "Thank you," she murmured, nodding. "If you find anything else..." It was obvious she'd want him to tell her.

Turning, Alexis crossed her arms. Hugging herself, she walked off into the night to go back home.

He nodded, confirming that he would let her know if he found anything else. Which he would, soon. He had every intention of finding Michael Dawson. If only to satisfy his curiosity.

So that was it, then. Easy enough.

Now all he had to do was let her go home.

He sighed and rolled his eyes. "It's late -- I'll walk ya home," he said, falling into step beside her. He had a feeling she was going to tell him it was fine, or that she could handle herself, or that he was ugly and get out of her face already, but he didn't much care what she would say. She was a young girl pretty much by herself on a strange rock, and Gordon wasn't about to let her walk home alone.

Again, he was seeing his little sister when he looked at her. Probably he needed to stop that.

Alexis knew that it was probably best that she allow him to accompany her, but she had something of that stubbornness that seemed to pass through her family. Michael may be gone. However, she'd like to think that she could take care of herself. It didn't matter that she was alone out here, or that she hadn't really had time to grow up between her teenage years, her imprisonment, and the sudden loss of her brother after the rescue. She wanted to be okay, so she was trying to do just that.

Still with her arms wrapped around herself, she shook her head. "I think I can get back home, thanks. It's not too far." Okay, so it was a few blocks away, but certainly she could make it that far.
